Craniosacral Therapy strengthen's the body's natural healing abilities. This effective and gentle hands-on healing modality was developed within the field of Osteopathy in the early 20th century. Osteopathic Doctor John Upledger brought this work to health care providers and manual therapists outside of the Osteopathic community in the 1970’s, and it was here that Craniosacral Therapy became the bodywork modality that we know today.
Craniosacral refers to the brain and spinal chord, the spinal fluid that surrounds it, the protective tissue that houses the central nervous system, and the bones that this tissue attaches to—the sacrum and those of the cranium. Freeing restrictions in this protective housing of the central nervous system—the Dura Mater, brings greater functioning of the central nervous system and all that it supports. By strengthening the functioning of the central nervous system, many health challenges can be resolved. Regular sessions can support the resolution of TMJ dysfunction, migraine headaches, tinnitus, vertigo, chronic neck and back pain, anxiety, depression, and emotional and physical trauma. Receiving regular craniosacral sessions often brings mental clarity, a deep settling in the body, decreased stress, and increased energy.
Often pain and dysfunction arise as symptoms connected to deeper root causes of restriction in the craniosacral system. These root causes could be an immobile sacrum—the triangular bone at the end of your spine, imprints of emotional and/or physical trauma, or limited mobility of the cranial bones. Craniosacral Therapy orients itself towards finding and resolving these root causes at the heart of one’s symptoms.
Craniosacral Therapy is most effective in a series of regular sessions, with each session facilitating shifts in the body that cumulatively translate into profound transformation over time. Craniosacral sessions are suitable and helpful for everyone, from children to elders, those in acute pain, and those living with chronic illness.
